Open Data training comes to the South West

ODI Devon, the local node of the Open Data Institute, is running a new half-day course to help you get to grips with open data. The course is aimed at anyone who wants to know how open data works, whether it’s just been added to your  job description or if you’d just like to know a bit more for a project.

The course covers:

  • what is ‘open data’ anyway?
  • where do I find open data for my project?
  • what can I do with it?
  • what tools can I use to get started?

By the end of this session you will be able to describe what makes open data open; you will know where to look for useful open datasets to use in your work or personal projects; and you will know how to use simple data presentation tools to share insights from the data.

The next course is at Exeter Central Library on Friday 27th November 2015.

Our meeting day is changing

In response to a recent survey of group members we are moving our meeting day and time. No longer are we going to be on the 3rd Thursday but we are going to try out the 3rd Monday of each month to see if it is easier for more people to attend. We are also slipping back 30 minutes, from 17:30 to 18:00 start, again to let more people have time to get to us. Our first Monday meeting will be on August 17th. If it works then it will stay like this, if we don’t see more people at the meetings then we will consider moving to a different day. All upcoming meeting dates are on the Calendar page.
